While trying to steal the looks of the famous idols, women experiment with various hair shades and sometimes end up with an unpleasant outcome. What is behind the color variation?
The stunning color of the girl on the box can really be enticing, but you just can’t trust it. If you want to rock a platinum blonde, drop a bombshell with cool tints of baby pink, or feel the shimmer of twilight, you should be able to decode all the letters and numbers on the dye box. It’s so challenging to master the numbering system. It is much like learning a new language; awesome, isn’t it? For instance, 07.155 — what do these figures stand for?
Let’s go deep into these number combinations that are standardized by ICC (International Color Chart) and unveil them.
The first number (07) indicates the level (depth or base), that determines the darkness or brightness of the color — the lower the number, the darker the color.
What about the second number?
The second number (.1) shows the tone of the color and is usually split up from level number by a hyphen, a slash, or a period.
The dye may have up to 3 tones. The first number that comes after the point (.1) is more prevalent than the other two ones (55).
Important Points
Zero indicates the neutral tones 6.04 ‘dark blonde with a slight tint of warm orange.’
Double numbers intensify a tone: 5.44 ‘light brown base with a warm copper tone.’
Let’s consider a few examples:
5.5 has one tone in it and it is decoded as ‘light brown base with neutral mahogany tone.
4.15 contains two tones and is equal to ‘medium brown with cool blue ash and neutral mahogany tones.’
But the International Color Chart is not a standard one for every brand. Most manufacturers use their own numbering system, as letters for tones.
Much like double numbers, double letters are more vibrant, for instance, 3.CC (3.44) is more vibrant than 3.C (3.4).
